Two of the most popular 360 cameras on the market today are QooCam 8K and Insta360 One R. These devices have a number of similarities, but they also have some key differences that may be important to you depending on your needs for this type of device. We’ll cover both QooCam 8K vs Insta360 One R comparisons and tests in order to help you make an informed decision about which one is right for you.

QooCam 8K
Introducing the QooCam 8K, the perfect camera for professional live streaming and live event vlogging. With its full view and 8K resolution, you can capture stunning footage that will amaze your viewers. And with 5G wifi connectivity, it’s easy to keep your signal strong even in crowded venues. Plus, the LCD screen makes it easy to see what you’re shooting, while the Dot Matrix OLED display provides clear feedback on settings and status.
Video Quality
The QooCamera can produce 8K video, whereas the One R can shoot 5.7K footage. The modular design of the One R, on the other hand, allows you to replace the 360-degree lens with a 4K “standard” lens.
The One R offers many shooting options, but there is no getting around the QooCam8K superior lens technology and resolution. The QooCam can produce sharper video and can shoot in 10bit which allows for more colors.
QooCam is better at taking pictures in the dark because it has a bigger sensor.
While the One R produces stunning video and is still a top-quality 360 camera for video quality, it can’t compare to the QooCam’s high-resolution video. The One R’s ability to swap lenses for different types of video is where it has the edge.
The One R camera can capture 360 video and normal video at 4K resolution. This eliminates the need for multiple cameras.
The QooCam shoots excellent video, but it isn’t simple to use. To edit and render 8K content on a desktop computer, you’ll need a strong computer. Mobile editing isn’t worth discussing. Kandao tried to develop a mobile proxy editing system, but it didn’t go as planned.
Stabilization
Both the Insta360 One and the QooCam 8K have six-axis image stabilization, which helps to eliminate motion blur. Although 360 cameras are ideal for producing smooth video without the use of any attachments, Insta360 in particular is known for its device’s amazing stabilizing software.
The One R also receives an enhanced version of Insta360’s Flowstate stability. This is a great way to ensure your video looks smooth in even the most severe conditions.
Kandao also created decent stabilization software to work with the QooCam 8K. However, due to its larger size, it will not work well for action shots. The QooCam 8K should be fine for walking, running and attaching to a drone. However, if it is subjected to more extreme conditions, it may struggle. This is almost perfect to ensure smooth video even in extreme conditions.
Photo Quality
Both cameras are designed for video shooting, but they’re also both capable of 360-degree stills cameras for people who want to capture such things. For one reason alone, QooCam outperforms its direct competitors in several categories: It has higher resolution 360 photos (29MP vs 18MP), larger image sensors, and the capacity to produce 16bit.
The One R is also capable of taking DNG RAW photos. It has a “Night Mode” that creates high dynamic range HDR images by stacking up 10 pictures. However, the sensor size and resolution will impact the quality.
Although the QooCam is technically more efficient than the One R for shooting photos, it is still difficult to use. Two desktop programs are required to create the best QooCam images. The One R makes it easier to use your images and make them editable.
Design
The most striking difference between these cameras is their appearance. QooCam has a dual-lens candy bar-shaped device. It features a large touch screen with three manual controls and a large touch screen. The tripod mount mounted on the base allows it to sit flat on any surface. It is responsive and large enough to display image previews.
Without a case, the large lenses can be very vulnerable as they protrude from the camera’s body. On the side of your camera, you’ll find a MicroSD card slot and a USB C port.
The QooCam is simple to use on a shoot, and the touchscreen allows for full manual control without requiring the camera to be connected to a phone.
Insta360 One R is modular, which means that it needs to be assembled. It is as simple as putting two pieces of Lego together. The standard edition includes the 360 modules, 4K module and battery. The assembly of the entire camera takes approximately 30 seconds.
The One R has a modular design that allows you to add features while retaining the same look and feel. While this system is ideal for expanding functionality, changing between the two lenses may be a little inconvenient, since there’s no bag or pouch for the lens you aren’t using. However, because this system allows for future hardware upgrades in the future, the One R comes with somewhat of a long lifespan.
You can control the camera using the touch screen on the One R. However, the screen is smaller than the QooCam so it is more difficult to use. You can use the bracket with any GoPro accessory, including all GoPro accessories.
App
Here is where the fun begins. It’s all very well to have great hardware, but it doesn’t make any difference if you don’t have good software. This is where Insta360 One R shines, and the QooCam fails.
One R is my favorite video editor. It allows you to quickly create amazing vlogs, action photos and unique B-Roll videos in just minutes. Insta360’s templates make it easy to create multiple effects and only require you to click a few buttons.
The One R App can combine your videos, cut them, monitor individuals, color correct them, add music and text, and reframe 360 degree videos.
The QooCam has yet to create a decent app and is still behind the One R. Although 8K video can be reframed in 4K linear quality (compared to 1080p for the One R), it is not possible to do this on a mobile application. Mobile editing will result in a lower-quality video.
If you want to have a QooCam 8K, you need to have good video editing software.
Conclusions
So, which is the best 360 camera? The QooCam or the Insta360 One R? It’s a difficult question to answer. They are both excellent cameras, with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Ultimately, it depends on what you want to use your 360 camera for.
If you need an extremely high-quality 360 camera that can shoot in resolutions up to 8000K, then the QooCam is the obvious choice. However, if you mainly plan to use your 360 camera for social media and casual photography, then the Insta360 One R may be more suitable due to its lower price tag and smaller size.
Whichever camera you choose, we guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
