Design

Let’s first check out the camera. They are similar, but they also have their own unique features. One X2’s design is based on the original One X. It still has a unique stick shape that allows for the placement of both lenses on each side of one camera, which improves stitching. One X2 has a slightly more boxy appearance than the original One X, which gives it a more firm look.

A single R camera can be broken down into three pieces. The first is the lens and the screen. The base is where they are connected and used to place the mount. You can modify the main lens using a 1-inch sensor option, or any other mods or variants that are compatible with the camera.

My main concern about the One R’s design as a 360 camera is its dimension. They are either thicker or thinner than the One X2, which means that the stitching will be more obvious than the thinner One X2 and the original One X. The One X2 is smaller but taller and has a single round display at its front. It is also more targeted towards 360 recordings, while not limiting the application.

Image Quality

Although the One X2, One X, and One R all have the same maximum video resolution at 5.7K, it doesn’t mean that the video quality is identical. The One X2 video quality is noticeably better than that of the original One X.

Direct comparisons of the two cameras will show that the One X2’s video looks sharper and has a wider dynamic range. However, I think the Insta360 One X2 camera handles movement better than the One X. They seem to have improved the stabilization, which removes the jittery effect from our steps and vehicle movement.

Although the difference may not be significant in all situations, I believe there is a noticeable improvement. The One X2 has a video mode called steady camera that uses only one lens to capture non-360 video. This feature is not available with the original One X.

Let’s now compare the image quality between Insta360 OneX2 and OneR. They are different. The One X2 has a better dynamic range, and you don’t need to zoom in to see the details. It handles colors well. While it may look more saturated for some, it looks great on any size screen. The One X2 also benefits from a higher bit rate which makes the footage look better.

The resolution options for all three cameras are identical, with [email protected] and 3K @100fps. Given the gap of two years, it’s a bit disappointing that the One X and the One X2 had no increase in framerate or resolution. All three cameras have the same video modes, including LOG mode and HDR video.

The One X2 is a worthy upgrade to the One X, but the One X2 has a lot in common with the One R when it comes to shooting video. The One R is capable of morphing into three distinct cameras, but it is more expensive and may not be necessary.

The One X2 has a number of new photo modes, making it a better choice for 360 photography. Pureshot mode lets the camera combine multiple exposures automatically. This results in a higher quality image than normal and does not require any editing. Although the One X and One R don’t have this mode, all three have the ability to capture RAW images. It’s close, and no Insta360 camera can take professional-quality images.

One advantage the One X2 has over other cameras is its single lens “steadycam” mode. The One X2 can be used to shoot non-360 video with one of its two lenses. The One X2 becomes a 2-in-1 camera.

Steadycam mode can only capture 1440p resolution at 50 frames per second. Although the quality isn’t great, it is comparable to modern smartphones. However, Inta360 has excellent stabilization technology that allows you to capture super stable flat video without editing.

Stabilization

The amazing flowstate stabilization software is what makes Insta360 cameras so popular. Insta360 cameras are great for action shots because they can handle extreme movements and still maintain smooth video. This software was first introduced to the One X camera. It worked well in low light conditions, but less so with the One X2. The second generation of this software is available in the One X2 or One R. It works better in all lighting conditions.

Applications and Software

Each Insta360 camera uses the same Insta360 app for editing, color correction and re-framing. The app has many automatic editing modes that create unique effects from 360 videos. The Insta360 App makes it easy to reframe your 360 videos. You can also apply filters and do color correction.

One thing to be aware of is that not all effects are available in the One X, but they can all be used in the One X2 or One R. This is likely due to marketing and functionality rather than actual functionality.

Some of the advanced features include object tracking, high-bit-rate exporting, and clone trails. These features are only available on a very powerful phone. After a long editing session, you may find the app a little slow.

Other Differences

Battery: Insta360 cameras are not known for their long battery life. The original One X was a poor performer in terms of battery life, but the One R made some improvements. With a 55% increase in battery life over the original One X, the One X2 is the most reliable of all three.

Waterproof: The One X2 & One R are waterproof up to 10 meters without the need for an extra case, while the One X is not waterproof at all.

Conclusions

The Insta360 One X, which was released in 2017, is still a great camera. It might not have all of the features that you see on the newer models but it’s incredibly fun to use and takes beautiful 360 photos and videos. If you are looking for an easy-to-use model with good quality pictures then this is a fantastic value for money product.

If you are looking for higher quality 360 video recording then you should consider buying either the Insta360 One R or one X2 as they both have fantastic stabilization software which works very well indeed with this type of capture technology.
